consistently wins awards. See our members' handiwork!
2009 Entry
“Fishing in Dark Waters,” the club’s container garden entry at the Cincinnati
Flower Show, scored a perfect 100 points and received a gold medal to win
the PNC Bank Award for Container Gardens. Judges named it the most original and
creative design for an amateur entry.
2008 Entry
“Route
66 — From East to West,” the club’s container garden entry at the flower show,
received a gold medal and Martha Seaman Award of Excellence, awarded to an
amateur in Container Gardens displaying the most distinctive use of color and/or
textural harmony. The garden represented a California desert ecosystem complete
with the WigWam Hotel (a Route 66 landmark), a vintage gas station in Illinois
and a “lake” representing Lake Michigan. Designers: Michelle Breen, Gerri and
Bill Jones, Mike Kolb and Sheryl Heeter.

Jim Swearingen, a garden club member, co-designed an award-winning table setting
called “Birds of a Feather” that received the prestigious Dennis Buttelwerth
Florist award for Best of Show in Dramatic Table Settings at the flower show.

2007 Entry
The rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of Mike Kolb and Gerri Jones, who designed
“The Enchanted Forest” entry at the 2007 Cincinnati Flower Show.
The club’s first container garden entry at the flower show was awarded a gold medal and featured a river birch, woodland iris and
a variety of ferns. Designers: Michelle Breen, Gerri Jones and Mike Kolb.

2006 Entry
“Gardening Colors Our World,” the club’s entry to the flower show’s window box
competition, earned a bronze medal. Designers: Gerri Jones, Larry Lewis, Rene
McPhedran and Bruce Murray.
2005 Entry
“Mad Hatter’s Tea Party,” the club’s entry in the window box category at the
flower show, earned a gold medal. Designers: Mike Kolb, Rene McPhedran, Carolyn
Rollin and Gerri Jones.
2004 Entry
The club’s first entry at the Flower show’s window box competition, “Gardening
is Out of This World,” received a gold medal and the top prize of Best in Show
“Amateur Achievement in Window Box” award. Designers: Gerri Jones, Tom Lorenz
and Rene McPhedran.
