Garden Heirlooms: Newport’s East Row Garden Club inspires with outdoor antiques (May 2011)

Five gardens from the 2010 Newport Garden Walk are featured in this article written by Sarah Dills.

The beautiful garden of member Nancy Grace, which was showcased on 2006 and 2007 East Row Garden Walks, was featured in the Summer 2008 issue of Better Homes & Gardens’ Special Interest Publications called Do It Yourself.

Called “A Narrow Escape,” the five-page feature story showcases Nancy’s courtyard garden with its brick walls, slate walkways and a long, narrow koi pond with a waterfall.

Two gardens in the East Row Historic District were featured prominently in a book on painting decorative garden furniture and accessories. The book, Donna Dewberry’s Painted Garden, features photographs taken in the gardens of Kevin and Jane Murphy, former East Row residents, and Dave and Sheryl Heeter.

Clare Finney, a longtime East Row resident and garden club member, was the art director for the photo shoot and worked with members of the club to find gardens and settings that would make beautiful backgrounds for the painted pieces. The book was published by North Light Books, an imprint of Cincinnati-based F&W Publications Inc.
